Fit and sizing
Size guide
Most Athlefit styles come in whole and half US sizes, some in wide width. Here is how to pick yours before you press the button.
Measure late in the day
Feet swell during the day, so the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons suggests shopping late in the day and measuring while standing. Measure both feet, and fit the larger one, as the Academy advises.
Leave about half an inch between your longest toe and the front of the shoe. The American Orthopaedic Foot & Ankle Society also suggests the ball of the foot sit in the widest part of the shoe, and that the heel not slip.
Wide width and toe shapes
A few of our boots come in wide width sizes, listed as "Wide" in the size list under that color. If a shoe feels narrow, the Academy suggests a wider toe box rather than a longer size.
A square toe keeps the front of the shoe wide. A pointed toe narrows it. If you usually go up a half size in pointed shoes, stay with your usual size in the square toe styles.
Girls' sizes
Children's sizes run in three bands: toddler, little kid, and big kid, where the numbers start again at 1. The American Podiatric Medical Association suggests checking a child's size every four to six months, with a toe box at least as wide as the foot and a closure that holds the shoe on.
The American Orthopaedic Foot & Ankle Society suggests about half an inch of room at the toes, shoes that do not need breaking in, and heels of no more than an inch for older children. Our girls' dress sandals sit a little higher, so they are occasion shoes rather than school shoes.
