Heel height guide

Choose the height first and the style second. Every pair below is sorted by the heel height in our product data.

What the specialists suggest

For everyday wear, the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons and the American Podiatric Medical Association both put the heel below two inches. The American Orthopaedic Foot & Ankle Society suggests a lower heel, a wider toe box and a wider heel for stability, worn for shorter stretches, and extra care on wet or uneven ground.

For wedges, the Podiatric Medical Association prefers a wider, flatter wedge with a sole that grips. For older adults, the National Institute on Aging suggests nonskid, low-heeled shoes and counts high heels and backless shoes among the footwear that makes a fall more likely.

How to read the height

A platform under the front of the foot lowers the slope you actually stand on, so a platform boot feels lower than a pump with the same heel height. The product details list the platform height separately where our data has it.
